WEST HIGHLAND WAY WALK
152km for Restmount
The journey begins!
After months of planning and preparation here we are at Durban’s King Shaka Airport finally ready to embark on our
52km Walk for Restmount Children’s Home.
Let the walk begin!
DAY 1 – MILNGAVIE TO DRYMEN – 19.2km
And 6 and a half hours later – feeling good
DAY 2 – DRYMEN TO ROWARDENNAN 23km
Started off getting lost and doing an extra 6km plus the route of 23km! So took us 9 and a half hours due to howling winds and lots of rain and mud and a lot of climbing up Conic Hill.
DAY 3 – ROWARDENNAN TO INVERARNAN – 20.8km
20.8km today to Inverarnan with some clean clothes at least.
We were able to do some laundry overnight but those shoes still didn’t dry!
DAY 4 – INVERARNAN TO TYNDRUM – 19.2km
Had to do 19.2km today which took 8 hours of more mud and more rain but we reached the halfway mark (on the bridge) and it’s a great day to be alive!
DAY 5 – TYNDRUM TO KINGSHOUSE – 32km
The sun is shining for our longest day of 32km.
Only 5 and a half hours today and not too much climbing.
My ankle gave some trouble but Chris massaged it and we rested and off we went.
DAY 6 – KINGSHOUSE TO KINLOCHLEVEN – 14.4km
We are at the top of the world and what a feeling!
The highest point on the walk after climbing Devil’s Staircase and taking 5 hours to do 14.4kms!
DAY 7 – KINLOCHLEVEN TO FORT WILLIAM – 22.4km
Last day and onto Fort William. 22.4km and the offer of a shortcut through the town.
No ways! This was for Restmount so we followed the route again up another mountain and took 8 hours to complete.
A picnic lunch on a hot day – we had to look for some shade!
THE END!!
And all too soon it is over!
You never know when you are creating a memory and this will live in the memory bank forever!
Every accomplishment starts with the decision to begin – so start something today!
